Contest Results

Congratulations to Maggie Chaffin and her heifer Shania for taking 1st place in their class at the Houston Livestock Show!  This placement just goes to show the hard work and dedication Maggie has put out this year. The Bosque County 4-H Range Evaluation Team participated at the Hackamore Ranch Contest on Saturday, March 14. The team took 3rd place overall with the members individually placing:  Matthew Murphy 11th, McKenzie Kreztmeier 9th, Emily Murphy 7th and Benjamin Murphy 6th.

Photography Workshop

All of you 4-H shutterbugs come and join us for “The Golden Hour” photography workshop on Monday, March 16th starting at 5:00pm at the Meridian State Park.  Leigh Gilbert, a professional photographer from Meridian, will be teaching a lesson on how to take photographs during the Golden Hour before the sun goes down.  Whether from a point and shoot camera or a highly advanced high tech camera, Leigh has a lesson to fit you all.  If you are interested in attending please contact the Extension office.  The workshop… Read More →

Bosque County 4-H Roundup

County 4-H Roundup will be held at First Baptist Meridian on Saturday, March 28th.  Registration for the Roundup is now open on the bosque.agrilife.org website.  The County Roundup consists of two events:   Educational Presentation – beginning at 2:00pm; and Share the Fun – beginning at 4:00pm.  If you have any questions or would like more information please call Marc at the Extension office at 254-435-2331.

Ft Worth Stock Show – DONE!

The final weekend of the Ft Worth Stock Show had Bosque County 4-Hers giving their best in the steer show and calf scramble. In the calf scramble, held during the rodeo on Friday the 6th, Emily and Benjamin Murphy and 14 other scramblers gave all the physical effort they could muster up in the pursuit of the 8 calves. Bosque County 4-H is starting a new Photography SPIN Club this spring!  What is a SPIN Club?  I’m glad you asked!  A 4-H SPIN Club is a SPecial INterest club.  A SPIN club focuses on a special topic and only meets for a short time during the year.  The Photography SPIN club will meet several times during the spring for great workshops with professional photographers.  This is a great way to get tips from the pros and practice your new skills without a long-term time commitment. Ft Worth Stock Show

The Ft Worth Stock Show is in full swing and Bosque County 4-H is leaving its mark. On Saturday, January 24, Maggie Chaffin took 7th place with her heifer in the Herford class. Maggie did a great job in preparing her animal for show and with her showmanship in the ring. The Plant ID contest was also held on January 24th. Central Texas Youth Fair: Deadline Reminder

The Central Texas Youth Fair will be held March 3 -7 this year. The entries for ag mechanics, home economics, rabbits, broilers and the cake sale for the CTYF must be postmarked by February 2, 2015, along with Scholarship applications. Remember, anyone can enter projects in the Home Economics Contest. The age categories are: Children ages 4-7; Juniors ages 8-12; Seniors ages 13-18; and Open ages 19 and up. Food Challenge

We are so proud of the Bosque County 4-H Food Challenge Teams!  On Wednesday December 10, Bosque County 4-H sent three teams to compete at the District Food Challenge competition in Belton. The Crazy Cooks Team won 4th place and the Team Spirit Award in the Junior/Intermediate Fruits and Vegetable Category.  Crazy Cooks team members include Jackson DeBorde, Madisyn Hicks, Dakota Casssidy, and Hayden Hewitt .  The Sizzlin Sistah’s, consisting of Bailey Burt, Reese Errington, Libby Stauffer, and McKenzie Hicks, did an excellent job in the Junior/Intermediate Breads… Read More →
