Did you know that the 4-H Youth Development Program in Bosque County offers 12 different projects for youth to participate? Each project offers the kids a chance to learn new skills, practice those skills and then put them to the test at competitions with kids from all over Texas. 4-H teaches leadership, responsibility, service and citizenship through project experiences. Ft Worth Stock Show – DONE!
The final weekend of the Ft Worth Stock Show had Bosque County 4-Hers giving their best in the steer show and calf scramble. In the calf scramble, held during the rodeo on Friday the 6th, Emily and Benjamin Murphy and 14 other scramblers gave all the physical effort they could muster up in the pursuit of the 8 calves. County Food Challenge Contest
The County Food Challenge Contest is being held at First Baptist Meridian at 11:00am tomorrow. There will be one senior team and two intermediate/junior teams advancing to the district competition. The teams participating are as follows: Senior Team: Lia Worley, Mackenzie Errington, Emma Guillory, and Elizabeth Seely Intermediate Team: Reese Errington, Libby Stauffer, Bailey Burt, and McKenzie Hicks Intermediate Team: Jackson DeBorde, Madisyn Hicks, Dakota Cassidy, and Hayden Hewitt Junior Team: Haley Creech, Jasmin Munoz, and Joshua Wyatt
New 4-H Archery Club
We are so proud to announce Bosque County’s newest 4-H Club: the Bosque Bullseyes Archery Club! Last week, the new club met to adopt bylaws and elect officers. The archery club will continue to meet practice their archery skills every Tuesday at 5:30pm at the Clifton Armory. The club will hold a monthly business meeting on the second Tuesday of the month before practice. Congratulations to the Bosque Bullseyes Archery Club and their new officers!
Central Texas Youth Fair & Swine Validation
We have been busy the last few weeks helping our 4-H members to validate their animals and get ready for livestock shows. The Central Texas Youth Fair is just around the corner! The CTYF is open to exhibitors attending Bosque County schools or Valley Mills ISD, and members of Bosque County 4-H. Though the fair is not until March 3-7, 2015, some entries and fees are due by December 10, 2014, while others are not due until February 2, 2015. 2014 District 8 4-H Holiday Classic
The Holiday Classic Clinics and Prospect Shows are open to all 4-H and FFA families free of charge. They are taking place on Saturday November 8th & 9th at the Bell County Expo Center, Belton TX. There will be many experts in livestock and youth development there to provide hands-on training for families in both group and individual settings. The focus is to teach the basic principles of livestock management as they relate to facility maintenance, selection, nutrition, animal health, handling, showmanship and transportation to families. 4-H Major show Entry Night and 4-H Happenings
Major Show Entry Night will be held at the Extension office on Nov 4th from 5:00-8:00pm. All entry forms, schedules and rule books for the major shows will be provided. We will also be serving homemade chili and cornbread, so bring your appetite as we try to make this process as fun as possible. Halloween Safety
Halloween is almost here! It’s one of my favorite days of the year, not because I like ghosts and goblins, but because there is candy involved! Halloween is a great time for kids to be outdoors to enjoy treats, fun and games. Bosque County 4-Hers Left Their Mark at the Heart of Texas Fair
Dacey Dietiker exhibited three steers, walking away with a 3rd, 4th, and a 6th place. Mason Brandenberger received a 2nd and 4th with his Shorthorn steer, and placed 5th and 8th with his Limousin steer. Maggie Chaffin placed 1st with her Hereford heifer and 2nd with her Polled Hereford heifer, and 3rd with her Maine Anjou steer. Case Koehler took 1st in the light weight Santa Gertrudis steer class. State Fair and 4-H Happenings
Congratulations to our State Fair Exhibitors! Wesley Sanders, Ty Sanders, Logan Anderson, Mason Brandenberger, and Dacey Dietiker all competed at the State Fair of Texas last week.
