Cooking Up A Cottage Food Business & Food Handler’s Certification

February 17, 2015 @ 10:00 am - 1:00 pm

$20

Interested in starting up your own Cottage Food Business? Texas A&M AgriLife Extension in Bosque County and the Laguna Park Library will be offering a fun course called Cooking Up a Cottage Food Business and Food Handler’s Certification on Tuesday, February 17, from 10am-1pm at the Laguna Park Community Church Fellowship Hall.  The cost of the course is $20 (pay at the door), and bring a sack lunch.

This two- in-one class is the best class to help you get started with your Cottage Food Business!  Start with a “Cooking Up A Cottage Food Business,” presentation designed to help you understand the Cottage Food Law; learn what can and cannot be sold in your operation and where you can sell your foods; and how to correctly label cottage foods.

The second part of the course is the Food Handlers Certification.  The Texas Cottage Food Law states that as of January 1, 2014, all owners of Cottage Food businesses are required to have a food handler’s card from a state accredited program.  Our food handler’s course is accredited by the Texas Department of State Health Services and will help you learn basic food safety practices that can help assure the food you prepare and sell is safe.

Contact Kate Whitney at 254-435-2331 klwhitney@ag.tamu.edu for more information about the course.  Sign up for the course by calling the Laguna Park Library at 254-622-2665 or by calling Kate at the Extension Office at 254-435-2331.
