Healthy Texas Youth Ambassadors

Texas A&M AgriLife Extension – Bosque County is now accepting applications for Healthy Texas Youth Ambassadors.  These are local, high-school aged youth with a passion for health, wellness and service who are trained to serve as community health and wellness leaders.   Healthy Texas Youth Ambassadors assist county extension agents in providing leadership to their peers during health programs and projects within Texas 4-H, Healthy Texas, and other Texas A&M AgriLife health programs.

Youth interested in this program can expect to advocate for health and nutrition in schools, at health fairs, or community events, provide demonstrations for community members, lead social and mass media efforts on health topics, and deliver programs for 4-H club meetings right here in Bosque County. Ambassadors will gain valuable skills in public speaking and presentations, planning, community outreach, as well as bolster their knowledge and understanding of personal and community health and wellness.

This program is open to all youth who are entering the 9th grade or above in the 2019-2020 school year.  Youth who are accepted into the program will begin a two-year term, or until their graduation if it falls within those two years, as a Healthy Texas Youth Ambassador the summer prior to the school year.  Youth who are accepted into the program are required to attend a regional training summit on July 31, 2019.  (If there are scheduling conflicts, youth can attend a summit in a different region on a different day.)   Ambassadors will then provide 50 hours of service to their community through peer-to-peer education, school programs, community programs, and service learning opportunities.

Applications will be due to the Bosque County Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service office by May 1st, 2019.  Applicants will receive notice of acceptance by June 1st.
