Drink More Water!

As the temperatures keep rising this summer, don’t forget to stay hydrated!  When you make your choice for a drink to keep you cool, try making water your first choice.  A recent study from the Journal of Human Nutrition and Dietetics provides evidence that drinking water over other drinks can help control our weight.  I bet everyone would raise a glass of water to that!

The study looked at the eating and drinking habits of more than 18,000 adults between 2005 and 2012.  The researchers found that people who drank the most plain water in their daily diet consumed fewer total calories, drank fewer sweetened beverages, and took in less total fat, saturated fat, sugar, salt, and cholesterol.

This study supports prior research with similar findings.  Drinking water before meals and substituting water for sweetened beverages can cut down on calorie intake and improve weight control.  If you are interested in losing weight and improving your overall health, you will benefit from incorporating more water into your daily diet.
