Bosque County 4-H members have already had a busy spring competing in 4-H contests.
The 2014 Hackamore Ranch Open Invitational Contests were on April 5th at 44 Farms in Cameron.
These contests included Range & Pasture Plant Identification and Range Evaluation. These were the 2nd Annual 4-H and FFA Contests sponsored by Mr. Cody Fowler of Hackamore Ranch in Milam County. Cody and Albina Fowler have an interest in youth and ecology, so their non-profit organization is providing scholarships to high point senior participants. A minimum $5,000 scholarship was awarded to the high point senior individual in Plant ID and a minimum $5,000 scholarship was awarded to the high point senior individual in Range Evaluation. Educational training was provided by Dr. Barron Rector, Associate Professor and Extension Range Specialist. Dr. Rector also coordinated the contests.
1st place Junior Team received Gist buckles – Emily Murphy and Kenzie, Merritt, and Court Kretzmeier.
1st place Junior Individual received a Gist buckle – Kenzie Kretzmeier.
Bosque County 4-H Plant ID & Range Project Leader received a Gist buckle – Kerri Kretzmeier.
2nd place Junior Individual – Emily Murphy.
3rd place Senior Team – Lane Smajstrla, Benjamin Murphy, and Joshua & Caleb Murphy.
Bosque County 4-H members also brought home lots of first place awards from the District 4-H Plant ID and Range Evaluation Contests on April 11th at Flat Top Ranch in Walnut Springs.

Seniors, Joshua, Caleb, and Benjamin Murphy have qualified for the 2014 Texas 4-H Roundup
and have a chance to represent Bosque County 4-H in College Station in June.
The District 4-H Roundup was also held on April 12th in Meridian, where Bosque County 4-Hers received many first place ribbons and seniors qualified for Texas 4-H Roundup.
