Prescribed Burn Manager Workshop in March

ATTENTION: This course has been cancelled.

A Prescribed Burn Manager (PBM) workshop will be held on March 4th, 5th and 6th in Bosque County.  A PBM previously known as a Master Burn Certification will allow landowners and managers greater flexibility in implementing prescribed burns.  The three day school will be a combination of classroom and hands-on training.

Prescribed burning is a great way to control most of the problem weeds and brush in Bosque County.  A well-planned burn can control 98% of the cactus, blueberry juniper and nearly all annual weeds.  Fire is a good tool to suppress mesquite, red berry juniper and perennial weeds.   Prescribed burns are also used to remove excessive fuel loads that can lead to damaging and disastrous wildfires.   Prescribed burns can be planned and implemented to improve wildlife habitat or to promote more grass for livestock production.   In short, prescribed burning is a great tool for land managers.

The course will be limited to the first 30 registrants.  The cost of the course will be $400 but the fee will be lessened if more than 20 people register.  Twenty is also the minimum number we must have to host the course and cover the cost of our private instructors.  The classroom instruction will be held at the Meridian Civic Center starting at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 4th.  Each day we will adjourn when the burn is extinguished so participants should be ready for some long days.
