Small Grain Field Day

Our office regularly receives inquiries on courses in the area that provide CEU credits. On Friday, April 25th the Small Grain Field Day will provide participants an opportunity to earn 3 CEU’s for Pesticide License holders and 4 CCA credits for Certified Crop Advisors. Participants will earn 1 General, 1 IPM and 1 Law/Reg CEU toward their Pesticide License, and Certified Crop Advisors will earn 1 IPM and 3 Crop Management credits. Call the Bosque AgriLife Extension Service to register at 254-435-2331. Cost is only $10 and includes a noon meal provided by sponsors of the event.

The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Agriculture committees in Bell, Bosque, Coryell, Falls, Hamilton, Limestone and McLennan County are sponsoring a Small Grain Tour on Friday, April 25, 2014.  The program will begin at 8:00 a.m. in the field, and move to the Niemeier’s barn, west of McGregor on Plainview Road (off of Farmview Parkway FM 938.)  Cost for the program is $10.00 per person.

Breakfast is provided by Capital Farm Credit, water provided by Bosque County Extension office, and the noon meal is free of charge, compliments of the sponsors.  RSVPs are required by Monday, April 21, 2014 to the Bosque County Extension office (254) 435-2331.

Speakers for the tour will be: Dr. Jason Johnson – Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service Economist; Dr. Clark Neely, Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service Grain Specialist; Dr. Allen Knutson – Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Program Entomologist; Brandi Kelm- Texas Department of Agriculture Inspector.  Farm Service Agency Program updates will be provided by Mike Maedgen, Waco office.

Topics for the tour include: Small Grain Update, Hessian Fly Research at McGregor, Small Grain Technology Update, Farm Bill and Ag Commodity Update, Fertilization on Wheat & Seed Treatments, Laws and Regulations of Pesticide Applicators, and Farm Service Agency update along with a walk-through of the varieties.

Private Applicators License holders will receive (3) three continuing education hours (1 general, 1 IPM and 1 Law/Regulations).

CCA License holders will receive 4 hours – 1 in Pest management and 3 in Crop management.

The tour will include a noon meal provided by our sponsors.  The meal will be at Niemeier’s Barn in McGregor, Texas.  RSVP is required for the meal by Tuesday, April 22, 2014 to
